Description
Bimatoprost Ophthalmic Solution (Lumigan) is an FDA-approved eye medication and used worldwide to lower ocular blood pressure. It is extremely effective with minimal side effects. It is generally safe to use as well as effective in stimulating the growth of the eyelashes.
How does Bimatoprost Ophthalmic Solution (Lumigan) work?
Lumigan is a synthetic drug that mimics and resembles the effect of prostaglandins produced in the body. The exact mechanism of action remains unknown but this eye drop is believed to work by reducing the intraocular pressure (IOP) in the eye. It increases the outflow of aqueous humor from the eye that causes optic nerve damage and visual loss. It also increases the growth of the eyelashes by increasing the duration of the growing phase of the eyelashes.
How to use Bimatoprost Ophthalmic Solution (Lumigan)?
The recommended dose for the reduction of intraocular pressure of the eye is one drop of Lumigan 0.01 or 0.03% in the affected eye(s). Use the drop once a day in the evening. The reduction effect occurs exactly after 4 hours after administration. The duration of the effect can last from 8 to 12 hours.
When used for cosmetic purposes, the recommended dose is one drop on the upper eyelid at the base of the eyelashes once a day. Apply Lumigan using an applicator. If you are using contact lenses, remove it first before applying Lumigan. After applying, wait for 15 minutes before putting the contacts back. Do not allow the tip of the dispensing solution to touch your eye or anything around the eye to avoid contamination.

Rosie Porter –
This is really good in controlling the pressure in my eye. I have been suffering from glaucoma for years and it has affected my activities of daily living so I’m really thankful that this medication is able to help with my condition effectively. Though, this drug could sometimes cause eye dryness. But it is easily resolved with just using some artificial tears eye drops. So the benefit still outweighs the side effect.
