Montelukast

Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. It is prescribed for the management and prevention of asthma symptoms in adults and children 12 months of age and older. Symptoms of asthma include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Wheezing
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Coughing
  • Chest tightness

It also helps decrease the number of asthma attacks. Montelukast is also used to treat symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis, seasonal and perennial allergies in adults and children 2 years of age and older. It is used before an exercise to prevent breathing problems or bronchospasm.

Montelukast works by blocking the effects of a natural substance in the body known as leukotriene. When the body comes in contact with triggers, the body produces Leukotriene. This natural substance is responsible for the swelling and narrowing of the airways in the lungs.

How to Use It

Montelukast comes as a tablet, granule and chewable tablet to take orally. The recommended dose for an adult and children 15 years of age and older is 1 tablet of 10mg. Children 6 to 14 years of age should take the chewable tablet. Take 1 tablet of 5mg in the evening. Children age 2 to 5 years of old should take 1 chewable tablet of 4 mg once a day. For the prevention of exercised-induce asthma, take it 2 hours before exercise.

Take this medication exactly as prescribed. Take it with or without food with a glass of water. If you are using the chewable tablet, chew the tablet well before swallowing them. Do not take more than one tablet within 24 hours. You can buy Monstelukast Here.
