Budesonide

Budesonide is a prescription steroid medication. It is used to treat asthma symptoms when rescue inhaler is no longer adequate treatment.

Budesonide is one of the extensively evaluated inhaled corticosteroids. It helps prevent asthma symptoms like:

  • Wheezing

  • Difficulty breathing

It works by reducing the inflammation in the lungs making asthma less severe.

When and How to Use Budesonide

Budesonide comes as a suspension to inhale by mouth using a jet nebulizer and as a powder to inhale using an inhaler. Adults and children 6 years of age and older can use the powder for oral inhalation while children 12 months to 8 years of age can use the suspension for oral inhalation.

Use this medication once or twice a day or as directed by your physician. Use it once in the morning and once in the evening. Use it at around the same time each day, ideally 10 to 12 hours apart. This medication comes with a written instruction that you need to read. Use it accordingly or as prescribed by your physician. Do not use more or less than what is prescribed to you. • Continue using this medication even if you feel well.
  • Budesonide is for inhalation use only. Do not swallow the suspension.
  • If your condition worsens during the treatment, contact your doctor.
